Ottawa is accepting development proposals for two Crown-owned land parcels in Calgary and Edmonton to address the housing crisis. In Calgary's Currie Barracks, 99 housing units will be built, with 30% designated as affordable, while Edmonton's Village of Griesbach will see 45 new townhouses, half of which will also be affordable. Developers will lease the land at a discounted rate. The initiative is part of a broader strategy to unlock public lands for housing development, aiming to create 250,000 homes by 2031.
