Starting in 2026, non-profit housing providers in Calgary will be exempt from property taxes on units rented for less than 90% of median market rates. This unanimous council decision aims to help these organizations reinvest savings into new units, accessibility upgrades, and other improvements. The bylaw, influenced by the city's housing strategy and recent legislative changes, will apply only to certified non-profits with income verification processes. While the exemptions won't affect this year's tax bills, they will slightly adjust next year's tax rate for other properties.
