New rules for short-term rentals in Calgary take effect

Calgary has implemented changes to its short-term rental regulations, effective immediately. The Business Licence Bylaw now defines short-term rentals as lasting up to 180 days, requiring a business licence. Licences vary in cost based on whether the property is a primary or non-primary residence. Existing licence holders must verify their property type upon renewal. The city will not issue licences for homes designated as affordable housing. New non-primary residence licences will only be paused if the rental vacancy rate drops below 2.5%.
